Camilla 22

University Student

Camilla studies at San Diego State

University and lives nearby in La Mesa.

She regularly rides the Metro train

to the campus main transit center.

Without a car she needs reliable and

affordable access to transportation.

Loves getting to avoid morning traffic.

Hates riding alone with strangers.

Jerome 53

Downtown Frequenter

likes to take the trolley downtown for

events and nightlife. It’s a fun way for

him to catch up with old friends, and

to make new acquaintances. He

believes he is saving gas and emissions

as well.

Loves downtown parking being a thing

of the past.

Hates missing out on more time with

his friends when taking the long trolley

ride home.

  1. User Interview:

I interviewed a regular user of the metro system who is legally

blind. They provided helpful insights about what could be

improved in the app.

Goal 1-

Eliminate cluttered features and buttons from app

Goal 2-

Clarify design across app into one consistent

system.

The current app has three different design

systems in it for the Pronto Metro App

North County Transit System, and the

Metropolitan Transit System. This needs to

be simplified into one seamless experience.

Credit and Conclusion

I redesigned the three San Diego Metropolitan

Transit Systems into one seamless design solution.

This allows for a better understood platform and

eliminates confusion.

Visual design was clarified by removing senseless

buttons and using consistent colors throughout.

Solution Ideation-

Goals and Wireframes

Problem:

The San Diego Metro Transit System could

provide a more seamless user experience if

all design elements of the three existing

departments are combined into one

consistent flow.

  1. Field Observation: San Diego State University Station

Note Taking experience observing people coming and going

from one of the more busy metro stations in the city. This helped

me gain a feel for the users I needed to be mindful of in my

redesign.

Research-

Analysis, Observation, and Interview

  1. Comparative Analysis:

I compared the apps of other metro systems in the Southern California

region to gain an understanding of what they offered and which features

seemed to be most necessary.
